Industry –Academia Meet
Purpose: Technocracy plans to organize an interaction between the industry and the academia aimed at providing a platform for exchange of ideas and views to promote research and development in the institute involving industrial collaboration with active participation of the student community, especially those at the undergraduate level.
Procedure: The Industry- Academia interaction is planned to be organized in the first week of November, on the 7th of November i.e. Saturday. It will be a daylong seminar, wherein we would be discussing issues pertaining to industry academia interaction for overall development of research standards of the country with idea of maximizing involvement of student community.
The broad issues to be discussed would pertain to the expectations of the industry, the intellectual property rights of technologies developed and expectations of the student body. There would also be interactive sessions among the participants in order to help obtain a broad perspective of these issues. The structure of the plenary sessions is as follows:
Session-1: Current Condition of Industry-Academia Interaction: Various departments and centers of IIT would showcase the major R&D work in their respective domains in the past five years or more in the form of short presentations and videos. Precise facts and statistics will be discussed.
Duration: 60 minutes
TEA: 20-25min.
Session-2: Policy Perspective: Academics, research, investment returns, and other complexities and policies regarding them shall be discussed. We are targeting different bodies of government from Ministry of S&T to MHRD, DRDO, Indian army, Survey of India, and speakers like Arun Shourie, Kapil Sibbal, Dr S K Brahmachaari-Director general CSIR, Dr Sudheer Mishra from Intellectual Ventures. People from major investors like TATA, IBM etc. are also being targeted. Duration: 60 minutes
Working lunch: 40-45 min.
Session-3: Local innovation systems: An approach towards development of local innovation ecosystem so that we can develop many development zones across the country integrating local industries- Government bodies-academia. For this session, we are planning to have people from CII, ASSOCHAM etc.
Duration: 60 minutes
High tea: 20-25 min.
Session-4: Expectations of the Student Community: What the student body needs from the industry and the academic administration in terms of credit incentives, resource availability, experience and the commitment levels that they are ready to give. Duration: 60 minutes
Session-5: Conclusive Session: We shall put the idea of Technocracy/PoWER and ask invitees to give their expression of interest to join it. We will have our legal advisors and other faculty and student representatives with us who will finalize the cooperation agreement hand-in-hand. We should hope to get at least 10 expressions of interest on the day of Meet itself.
Duration:30 minutes.
This meet is going to be on a scale bigger than normal departmental industry academia meetsand we expect it to be attended by more than 50 industries and government bodies. We are also going to invite all IITs, some major universities, IIMs, and colleges around Delhi region. The number is expected to be 25. Efforts are being put to make it bigger and have a greater impact so that we can establish the idea of student-driven research with a greater strength and mobility of resources and ideas.
Budget and Funding:An initial budget plan has been formulated. For funding and sponsorship issues we are hoping to approach Dept. of Science & Technology and CII along with other participating companies.
